Description

The farm to school movement is gaining momentum in Hawai‘i!

O‘ahu farmers, distributors, food hubs, school food vendors, and schools are invited to a Farm to School Information Session and Mixer to network and learn about the Hawai‘i Department of Education’s new initiatives to buy local for school food programs, including the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program and the National School Lunch Program.

The Hawai‘i Department of Agriculture’s farm to school coordinator will share information on upcoming opportunities to sell local food to schools and connect with other institutional markets. The coordinator will be available to answer questions such as:

  • What vendor qualifications are needed to contract with the State?
  • What is the Local Food Survey Request for Information, and how will the information be used?
  • What types of State contracting opportunities are available and how to access them?

Farmers: Bring samples of your produce to showcase your food to school food representatives, distributors, and food hubs, while learning about opportunities to supply your food for school food programs. If your crops are not ready for harvest, bring photos of your produce and farm. Tables will be available for you to exhibit produce and information about your farm.

Schools, Distributors, Food Hubs, and School Meal Vendors: Come meet O‘ahu’s local farmers and learn how you can support the development of a local school food supply chain.

Please register by April 25 here or by calling The Kohala Center at 808-887-6411.

Parking will be available at the Capitol.
